Felling Male Voice Choir certainly know where to pick the locations when it comes to national TV coverage. But it was for a good cause – “Save Our Swans”!

The location was the former Swan Hunter Shipyard on a cold and very fresh Sunday morning.

The choir had been invited to take part in the Sunday morning programme “This is The Day”. The yard was as quiet as any church yard with the sound of a hammer on steel from a few men working on a ferry terminal in a nearby berth. While the plans for the broadcast were being made there were also plans for the demise of shipbuilding on the Tyne.

Ted Marley, who is still a first tenor with the choir, was a Manager and part of the Chaplaincy Service at the yard. He featured in the coverage.

After this coverage, there was a “sell out” concert at Newcastle City Hall with Mark Knopfler, Lindisfarne the guys from Felling in aid of the “Save Our Swans” campaign.
