1984 certainly turned out to be a Year of Concerts and Competitions for Felling Male Voice Choir.
Apart from the concerts and competitions highlighted in earlier postings, the choir also performed concerts in Bedlington, Blyth, Benton, Masham in Yorkshire, Siloth in Cumberland, Stakeford and Whitley Bay.
It was also a year for the choir to continue supporting charities. The year started with a concert in Gateshead to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the British Diabetic Society. In February, there was a concert in St. Theresa’s Church in Newcastle in aid of the Kidney Research Fund. In July, the choir supported the Rotary Club of Guisborough in a concert at the Methodist Church in aid of the North of England Children’s Cancer Research Fund. Another charity concert was given in Chester-Le-Street Methodist Church in aid of Finchale Training College for the Disabled. The year was rounded off with a concert at Heworth School for the Woman’s Cancer Detection Fund.
The choir also took part in the BBC Radio Wales Male Voice Choir of the Year competition. This was recorded without an audience on a tape and sent to Wales for judging. After surviving preliminary rounds, the choir was eliminated before the semi-finals.
Not a bad year of activity!
