Felling Male Voice Choir’s Annual Concert in 1993 had a truly international and youthful flavour.

One of the guest groups were from the City of Voronezh, 400 miles south east of Moscow. The Musical Institute of Voronezh supported a Specialist Music School to develop young musical talent. The Voronezh Virtuosi included young people from eight to sixteen with the champion Balalaika player, Konstantin Bogdanov.

The other guests this year were the Reading Phoenix Choir, whose exchange visit coincided with the Annual Concert at Newcastle City Hall.

The concert was a truly enjoyable experience. Felling opened with ‘Kalinka’. They also did three numbers in their original language to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Edward Greig. The choir also sang numbers including ‘Old Ark a Moverin’, ‘Windmills of Your Mind’, ‘Steal Away’, ‘One Hand/Tonight’ (West Side Story), ‘Ride the Chariot’, ‘Tribute to George Gershwin’, ‘The Last Words of David’, ‘In St. Paul’s’ and ‘Ballad of Little Musgrave’.

Members of the Greig Society and the Royal Norwegian Consulate were present in the audience.
