Felling Male Voice Choir may have been overall second at the Llangollen Music Festival in 1986. But they were awarded the highest mark for the “own choice” in the competition!

After the competition, the choir were invited to sing in the evening concert. The pieces performed were “Music”, “Great Things” and “Keep Your Feet Still”.

This is what the adjudicators said about Felling’s entries in the competition:
Test piece – “Dana Dana” – “A fine sound – and the fast moving passages are well articulated. Some effective soft singing on page 2. You built up a fine exciting climax, but the last chord was unpredictably untidy.”

Test piece – “Aye me my wonted joys” – “The easy two-in-a-bar tempo made for a well shaped leisurely phrasing and the gentle, tender style of the performance reflected the spirit of the words.”

Own choice – “Men of Felling” – “These difficult harmonies were well and truly handled. The declaration aspect of the music was well understood and rendered. It was splendidly unanimous, and sung with complete conviction and good appreciation of the softer section.”
