That was another record set by Felling Male Voice Choir on 31st October 1981.
The choir won First Prize in the open Male Voice Choirs class at the Blackpool Music Festival. This was the 21st time the choir had won 1st Prize, having only lost on three occasions out of 21 visits since the Second World War. The result represented a run of ten consecutive victories at Blackpool, a ‘record achieved by no other choir in this great festival’.
Although the adjudicator’s comments were disappointing and scanty, perhaps the best comments were from a member of a competing choir;
“that wasn’t an own choice, that was a Performance!”
