Patrons or Friends of the Felling Male Voice Choir.
The Choir relies greatly on the tremendous support and encouragement it receives from its Patrons or Friends as we prefer to call them, and will welcome anyone who wishes to join their growing numbers.
Through the help they give we are able to offer support to charities by way of concerts and provide a platform for youth choirs and individuals to perform with us as we seek to help and encourage them develop their musical and performance skills.
If you would like to become a patron, one of our Friends, all we ask for is a minimum annual donation ( currently £10 ) and in return you will receive an invitation to our Annual Patron’s Concert, which includes light refreshment and an opportunity to speak with choir members afterwards.
So far this year over 63 Patrons have joined us and we hope to achieve more than the Seventy plus we had last year – so if you’re not already a Patron and would like to become one please get in touch.
We look forward to welcoming you!

Patron’s News Letter
Felling Male Voice Choir
Dear Patrons and Friends,
I know I’m not alone when I say “where has the time gone?” but it doesn’t seem 6 months since my last newsletter. During that time we have all endured the sandstorms of Newbiggin and storms Abigail through to Katie. For your continued support “above and beyond” we sincerely thank you. It is very much appreciated.
Our diary for the year is starting to fill up and we hope to improve this even more as we step up our publicity programme starting with the distribution of thousands of leaflets throughout the area. We are keen to find new venues and explore new ideas so watch this space!
The joint concert with The Grainger Singers in Jesmond in March was very well received particularly our rendition of “Bui Doi”’ helped by the wonderful acoustics in the Jesmond UR church with the solo by our bass Graeme Steele receiving deserved praise. The Grainger Singers solo singers were also praiseworthy and we are indeed blessed to have such fine singers amongst us.
In March we were proud to receive the Wansbeck Bowl for our winning performance (Bruckner’s “Trosterin Musik”, and “Bui Doi”) in the Wansbeck Festival. The adjudicator’s glowing comments were probably anticipated by all other possible competitors who decided to stay away and give us a clear run.! A wise decision.
In April, our joint concert in Sunderland with Trelawnyd MVC was a great success and the quality of their performance did full credit to their Welsh heritage. We left them hoping that a reciprocal concert in Wales might be possible. Also, our concert at St, Godric’s, Durham earlier this month, in aid of 2 charities, raised an incredible amount in excess of £1000 and we are honoured to have been part of such a rewarding event.

25 Years Service
And – on to yet another achievement. Four stalwarts of the choir have been awarded certificates for 25 years service. Pictured, with our President, Gordon Adam, who made the presentations, are, from left to right, John Kerr, Ken Dixon, (Gordon Adam) John Mallan, and Ian McCredie. Well done! A brilliant and dedicated achievement. That’s 25 years of singing and finally learning how to smile (well almost!)
We are still hoping that we can find those men out there who might not yet know it but who would find a warm welcome at any of our Friday night practices. Come on! If you know anyone who can hold a note and would appreciate the prestige of being a member of this wonderful choir, then they should get in touch. Phone secretary Mike Scott on 0191 2640276 or just speak to any choir member at any time. Honestly, there’s no pressure, nothing to lose, but everything to gain.
And finally, on behalf of us all at FMVC we say thank you firstly to Joan and Alan for their everlasting endurance, to the four milestone stalwarts for their dedication, to you for your continued and gracious support, and, of course, a big thank you to the man who gave us a solo standing ovation in Jesmond and to the ladies who showed such dedicated cheerleading support in St Godric’s. It makes it all worth while.
