Shaun is a graduate of the Birmingham Conservatoire, where he gained the BMus(Hons) degree in 2003 and the Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in 2004. Whilst in Birmingham, he worked under the direction of notable conductors such as Sakari Oramo, Simon Halsey (City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus) Jeffrey Skidmore (of Ex Cathedra) and Philip Scriven (Lichfield Cathedral). He has attended Choral Directing classes given by Paul Spicer and David Saint.
Shaun has been the Director of Music at St George's Church, Cullercoats, since 2005. In addition to his work with the choir there, he maintains a busy schedule of freelance musical activites, including instrumental tuition, education work (in collaboration with Birmingham's Town Hall & Symphony Hall) and deputising (both vocally and as accompanist) with the Choir of St Nicholas' Cathedral, Newcastle. Since July, 2009, Shaun has been the Musical Director of the Bailiffgate Singers of Alnwick.
Linda Craig has been playing the piano since she was a small child. She studied music at Sunderland University gaining Licentiate Diplomas in singing as a teacher and performer. Her experience as an accompanist began at the Tyne Theatre where she played for rehearsals and played keyboard in the orchestra, when not on stage in a leading role. In 1998 Linda joined Northern Opera as a singer where was asked to be assistant répétiteur and soon became the accompanist for concert performances.
Mal started playing piano at the age of six under the dedicated tuition of Belle Dixon in his home-town of South Shields – lessons which he still attends to this day. A performer at heart, Mal has appeared in several musical productions throughout the region for a number of different societies, playing a variety of roles from chorus to leading characters, and has also performed as a singer/pianist at The Sage and Newcastle’s City Hall. A trainee accountant, Mal is the keyboard player in the band ‘Squares’ and is currently working towards his grade 8 piano qualification. He is thoroughly looking forward to his future with such a successful choir and would like to thank all his family, friends and choir members, for such undeniable support and encouragement.
