Shaun is a graduate of the Birmingham Conservatoire, where he gained the BMus(Hons) degree in 2003 and the Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in 2004. Whilst in Birmingham, he worked under the direction of notable conductors such as Sakari Oramo, Simon Halsey (City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus) Jeffrey Skidmore (Ex Cathedra) and Philip Scriven (Lichfield Cathedral). He has attended Choral Directing classes given by Paul Spicer and David Saint. In 2010-2011, he undertook study placements at both Canterbury and Manchester Cathedrals, under Dr David Flood and Christopher Stokes respectively.
Shaun maintains a busy schedule of freelance musical activities, including teaching, education work (in collaboration with Birmingham's Town Hall & Symphony Hall) and deputising (both vocally and as accompanist) with the Choir Newcastle Cathedral. Since September 2010, Shaun has been Director of Chapel Music, St. John's College, University of Durham. More recently he founded 'Chorus Peregrinus', a chamber choir specialising in liturgical performances of sacred music.
As an organist, Shaun gained the Associate of the Royal College of Organists (ARCO) and is the Organist of St Mary's Church, Ponteland. In this capacity he can be heard regularly with many choral societies in concert, and has given recitals at many venues in the region.
Mark is the most recent addition to our Music Team. A graduate of Music at Newcastle University, Mark is currently studying for his MMus in Conducting. He is passionate about the positive role music can play in the community and both performs and directs numerous groups in the region. These include: Newcastle University Chamber Choir; Newcastle Sinfonnietta and Tyneside Chamber Orchestra.Mark's breadth of experience includes a performance with Edinburgh's Indian Street Band at the Mumbai International festival in 2008.
Colin joined FMVC in 1965 and was appointed Deputy Conductor in 1976. He is also conductor of the Sunderland Singers.
Linda Craig has been playing the piano since she was a small child. She studied music at Sunderland University gaining Licentiate Diplomas in singing as a teacher and performer. Her experience as an accompanist began at the Tyne Theatre where she played for rehearsals and played keyboard in the orchestra, when not on stage in a leading role. In 1998 Linda joined Northern Opera as a singer where was asked to be assistant repetiteur and soon became the accompanist for concert performances.
Charlotte is the newest addition to our music team. She is currently studying for a BA in Music at Newcastle University. Prior to beginning her degree, she studied piano at the Sage Gateshead weekend school.
Charlotte's experience includes playing for Tynemouth Choral Society as well as taking part in concerts with FMVC Accompanist Linda Craig and her pupils. Her time with FMVC began as Associate Accompanist, during which time she has accompanied the full choir and solo singers, as well as playing a number of solo piano pieces.
