Felling Male Voice Choir were invited to sing at the National Association of Choirs Annual Meeting in the Newcastle Tyne Theatre in 1980.

Along with Ashington and Prudhoe Choirs, the choir presented three individual numbers. The three choirs were joined by Backworth, Hetton Lyons and Lemington in the massed male voices.

Felling, Backworth, Hetton Lyons and Lemington were back together in November for the Tyne and Wear Brass Band Contest. The Gala Concert was held at Newcastle City Hall. The guest band was Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

The concert was recorded by Radio Newcastle and broadcast on New Year’s Day 1981.

The evening was compared by Jack Charlton and he said:

“What a marvellous sound… if only they could play football as well as they sing, Newcastle would have an unbeatable team.”
