Need to know more? Have a look through our Frequently Asked Questions.
Q: When and where do you rehearse?
A: Each Friday in Felling Methodist Church Hall, Coldwell Street, Felling, Gateshead, between 7.00pm and 9.30pm.
Q: Can I come along and listen without commitment?
A: Of course! You will be warmly welcomed any Friday evening. Tea and coffee are available in the interval.
Q: I can’t read music – can I still be considered?
A: Sight-reading ability, whilst welcome, is NOT a pre-requisite. Your voice is what we require and all we ask is that you can sing in tune.
Q: Isn’t male voice choir music “all the same”?
A: Not at all! The current repertoire encompasses music of the last 400 years and arrangements of modern classics are a regular feature of our programmes.
Q: Surely I wouldn’t be good enough to join “The Felling”?
A: Not true! The choir (like most choirs) has singers of various abilities. It is the skill of the Director of Music which moulds these abilities and produces the end result. No-one need be inhibited in joining.
Q: Is there a nerve-racking audition?
A: Certainly not! Initially, you will have a very basic voice test to place you in the appropriate section (1st Tenor, 2nd Tenor, 1st Bass or 2nd Bass) of the choir and you will be sat alongside an experienced member who will act as your mentor or “buddy” to guide you through the first few rehearsals. Some time
the Director of Music will ask you to sing a short section of music rehearsed over the past few weeks to check on progress and, hopefully, to confirm your membership of the choir.
Q: How can I find out more about the choir?
A: Contact Michael Scott (via the Contact us page); speak to any member; visit the choir website (www.fmvc.org.uk) or simply drop in at a rehearsal – see above – you will be made most welcome.
You’re very welcome to drop in at a rehearsal, should you decide to “look us over”. You’ll be invited to sit in the choir and join in the singing, without any pressure, and then enjoy coffee and a chat with members during the interval. Rehearsals are held each Friday, 7:00pm to 9:30pm, at Felling Methodist Church: Coldwell Street, Felling, Gateshead, NE10 9HH. You can be assured of a warm welcome.
