No, it’s not a political map but the area which Felling Male Voice Choir reached out to in 1972!

Three big concerts with brass bands, Black Dyke Mills Band, Fairey Aviation Band and The Fodens Motor Works Band, at Newcastle City Hall and Sunderland Empire.

Community concerts given in the counties of Cumberland, Durham, Yorkshire, Northumberland and Westmoreland, as well as Felling, Gateshead and Newcastle. The choir even sang a concert for the inmates at Durham Prison.

Third prize at the Teesside International Eisteddfod.

The BBC invited the choir to compete in the “Let the People Sing” contest and they were selected to represent the Northern Region in the “Equal Voice Class” in 1973.

Not bad for a year’s achievements, which were probably best highlighted by the standing ovation at the Methodist Church in Mexborough!
