Chris Wiltshire, musical director of Felling Male Voice Choir, had been commissioned by the Wirral Singers to write a new piece of music.
The work was “The Forgeries of Jealousy” and was commissioned to celebrate the Wirral ladies’ fortieth anniversary and the 80th birthday of their founder-conductor, Doris Parkinson. This led to collaboration between the two choirs.
In November 1993, Felling travelled down to Birkenhead to take part in a joint concert. The concert on Saturday, 27th November 1993 was at Christ Church, Birkenhead and was recorded by BBC Radio for later coverage.
There joint arrangements of the two unofficial ‘Anthems’ – ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and ‘Blaydon Races’, as well as the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’.
As usual there were the usual “after concert” festivities to the early hours.
