Here’s what the media said about Felling Male Voice Choir’s success at the Blackpool Music Festival in 1979:
“The sound of Felling Male Voice Choir was sweet music to the ears of the judges at Blackpool Music Festival last weekend. They voted the choir into second place over all out of eighty-one choirs from Britain and Northern Ireland – and into first place in their class competition. This was the choir’s twenty-eighth visit to and their twentieth first prize. The competition winners were chosen from twelve choirs who had all come first or second in their class competitions. Felling came second to the London Chorale, and took home £100 as their reward.
It was fifty years ago that Felling won a first prize for the first time, and last weekend five of the original members in 1929 helped them to win their 20th first prize. They also sang the same test piece as in 1929.”
