This is what Dr. C Armstrong-Gibbs said about Felling Male Choir’s musical director, Tom Mearis:

“I cannot remember precisely the first time I heard Felling sing under Tom Mearis, but this I know, that never over many years did I hear him give a performance that was not in the top grade. I shall never forget the National Festival in 1951, when Felling was the winner, thanks to an uncannily sensitive and poetic rendering of ‘The Listeners’. Mearis was truly a great choral conductor, not only because he was equally strong on technique and interpretation, but because he never sought one goal with complete singleness of mind. It was not to show off the brilliance of the choir he led, but rather to enter the composer’s mind and to exhibit faithfully to the audience all he found there.”
