Felling Male Voice Choir continued their positive efforts to support charities across the North of England and to work with brass bands in 1989.

In May, the choir were invited to help the congregation of St James Church in Alnwick to celebrate their tercentenary. The church was full and the choir enjoyed singing in the fine old church.

In June, the choir travelled to Bedale to perform a concert. During September, they were closer to home at the old Holy Trinity Church in Washington.

In October, the choir travelled to Sheffield to perform a concert to help raise funds for the local hospice.

The majestic King’s Hall in Newcastle was the setting for a special concert in November. This was to support The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.

The choir also supported two Mayoral charities. The first was for the North Tyneside Mayoress’ charity ‘Children in Need’ at Whitley Bay Playhouse. The second was for the Mayor of Gateshead at Gateshead Leisure Centre with Felling Brass Band.

1989 was also a year for the choir to engage a lot with young people. They performed another concert at Gateshead Leisure Centre with Gateshead Junior Brass and Massed school choirs. The choir also sang at Gosforth East Middle School to help raise funds for new lighting. They also sang in Spennymoor for the King Street School PTA and shared the stage with the Spennymoor Town Band.

Quite a busy year!
