Newcastle City Hall was a firm favourite for the Annual Concert of Felling Male Voice Choir.

In 1980, the choir’s “Diamond Jubilee Year”, they invited Barbara Murray, sister of their accompanist Ken Murray, back as their guest artist. She played piano duets with her brother; four hands on a piano!

Norman Williams, the conductor, gave seven choir members the chance to sing solos. The music chosen represented the choir’s repertoire over the 60 years. It included favourites from the Festival platform such as “Temeraire”, “Listeners”, “The Last Words of David”, “The Fire Kindled” and “Beat! Beat! Drums”. It’s worth checking out the live recording of this concert.

There was an additional special guest in Karen Jones, the daughter of Barbara Murray. She gave a flute solo and went on to win the “Young Musician of the Year”.
