The North East is truly in “Top Position” and it also has “Royal Approval”!

Yes it was the 23rd June 1951 and Felling Male Voice Choir swept away the opposition at The Festival of Britain Music Competition. At the new Royal Festival Hall in London, the Choir beat off the best male voice choirs in the country to pick up First Prize!

During the evening session, Tom Mearis, the musical director was presented with the Silver Rose-Bowl, donated by Blackburn Music Society, by Her Royal Highness the Princess Elizabeth.

What an achievement after being formed 31 years earlier and true pride for the North East of England!
